PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect copyright by prescribing the number of times of backup.SOLUTION: A digital information recording and reproduction device configured to record digital information including video information or audio information in a recording medium and to reproduce the digital information controls recording operation by detecting copy control information from the digital information, disabling at least a part of the digital information to be reproduced, and updating copy frequency information. When the copy control information allows recording of only one generation, the digital information is converted to a predetermined number of predetermined bit rates, the copy frequency information is recorded in the recording medium, and the disabling operation and update operation are controlled according to the copy control information. When the digital information is moved to another recording medium, the copy frequency information is updated by decreasing the permitted number of times, the digital information signal, copy control information, and copy frequency information are recorded in the recording medium again, and the reproduced digital information signal is disabled to be reproduced. |
