PURPOSE: A method for providing a character to an online game and a device thereof are provided to supply a special character with abilities which are generally impossible to obtain in a game and enable a user to obtain the special character according to preset probability. CONSTITUTION: A signal for using a special character item is received from a user terminal(S110~S150). At least one special character and at least one different character except for the special character are set based on preset references as characters that a user can obtain. Probability with which a user can obtain one of the special characters is set(S160). One of the special characters is determined as a winning character according to the set probability(S170).
