The hospital or nursing bed (1) has a center post (50) and a longitudinal beam (20), where central post has a vertical guide for vertical guiding of an end of the longitudinal beam. A sliding guide (80) is provided for slidably guidance of the center post in longitudinal direction of the hospital or nursing bed. An independent claim is included for an extension unit for mounting on a longitudinal side of a hospital or nursing bed.
