A method and system for the automatic extension of registration expiration period when a UE makes an origination call or receives an incoming call in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) comprising the steps of defining values for the control parameters "Threshold of Remaining Registration Expiration Period to Perform Automatic Registration Extension" and "Automatic Registration Extension Period", configuring the S-CSCF in the IMS core to initiate the Diameter registration message to an associated HSS, sending response back to the UE confirming the registration period extension.
