The device (16) has a movable guide sliding on a fixed guide whose end is fixed at proximity of a reference wall (18) above an envelope transport path and a jogging panel. An external patch is slidingly mounted on the movable guide. A friction pad is mounted between fixed and movable guides. A compression spring has an end connected to the movable guide and another end connected to the external patch. An independent claim is also included for a mail processing machine.
