The method involves drowning an electrode (20) in electrically conducting fluid (14). Another electrode (24) is implanted in a site (21) of soil (22), so that a wall portion (12) is situated between the site and the former electrode. Direct electric current (26) is passed between the electrodes. Electric potential difference between geographically referenced points (31-34) at a wall portion surface (16) is measured. Points corresponding to the referenced points are carried on a portion map. Equipotential curves are determined on the map. A leakage path is determined based on the curves. The electrode drowned in the fluid is formed of an unsheathed cable made of electrically conductive material. An independent claim is also included for a unit or device for determining a leakage path produced in a portion of a wall anchored in soil when the portion retains volume of electrically conducting fluid.
