PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and an operating method thereof are provided to efficiently form a narrow bezel, thereby scanning a liquid crystal panel by a block unit. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit comprises a light guide plate(910) and a light source unit(920). The light source unit is arranged on one of vertical sides of the light guide plate. The light source unit includes a plurality of laminated light sources. The backlight unit supplies light to a liquid crystal panel.
