SURGICAL ACCESS ASSEMBLY WITH ADAPTER Abstract A surgical access assembly (100) is disclosed, including a resiliently compressible access port (1 10) defining a longitudinal axis (A1) and having proximal and distal ends (1 I0a, 1 Ob). At least one lumen (120) extends from the proximal end (I 10a) to the distal end (1 10b) of the access port (110) and is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis (Al). The surgical access assembly (100) includes a resiliently compressible adapter (130) having proximal and distal ends (130a, 130b), an opening (120a) at the proximal end (130a), and a passage for receipt of the access port (110). The adapter (130) has a diameter at its distal end (130b) different from the diameter of the distal end (1 Ob) of the access port (110). The adapter (130) has at least one opening (1 20b) in its distal end (130b) to allow an object to exit the at least one lumen (120).
