<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device capable of preventing the printing of a print target from being hindered in the case of an error caused by a factor that has nothing to do with the printing device itself. <P>SOLUTION: In the printing device, printing data are received from an external unit (S1: YES) and stored in RAM. Device information indicating the state of the printing device is acquired (S2). The question of whether or not a printer-side error caused by the printing device has occurred is determined on the basis of the device information (S3). When no printer-side error has occurred (S3: NO), determination is made as to whether or not the printing conditions indicated by the printing data are suitable for the present state of the printing device, i.e., determination is made as to whether or not the printing data are enabled in printing in the present state of the printing device on the basis of the printing data and the device information (S6). When the printing data are not enabled in printing (S6: NO), then error notification is transmitted to the transmission origin of the printing data (S7).
