<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a parking space between parked vehicles 50 and 51. <P>SOLUTION: A parking space detector calculates a plurality of groups of path lengths D<SB POS="POST">n-1</SB>and D<SB POS="POST">n</SB>using as a reception time a time at which a reception level of a proving wave has the second or subsequent peak at a plurality of measurement positions on a front side of a vehicle 51 out of a plurality of measurement positions corresponding to the vehicle 51; and then calculates a plurality of detection points using the plurality of groups of path lengths D<SB POS="POST">n-1</SB>and D<SB POS="POST">n</SB>to calculate a value of an X-coordinate of an end F of the vehicle 51 as an average of values of X-coordinates of the plurality of detection points. The detector then calculates a plurality of groups of path lengths D<SB POS="POST">n+1</SB>and D<SB POS="POST">n</SB>using as a reception time a time at which a reception level of a proving wave has the second or subsequent peak at a plurality of measurement positions on a front side of a vehicle 50 out of a plurality of measurement positions corresponding to the vehicle 50; and then calculates a plurality of detection points using the plurality of groups of path lengths D<SB POS="POST">n+1</SB>and D<SB POS="POST">n</SB>to calculate a value of an X-coordinate of an end R of the vehicle 50 as an average of values of X-coordinates of the plurality of detection points. The detector then determines a parking space based on the value of the X-coordinate of the end F of the vehicle 51 and the value of the x-coordinate of the end R of the vehicle 50. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
