The present invention relates to an operating method for a display device (1) of a vehicle. The display device (1) comprises a touch-sensitive surface (3). A first output (A) is displayed in an area (4) of the display device (1). A first motion (10) and a second motion (11) of an operating person (9) relative to the touch-sensitive surface (3) are detected simultaneously. The area (4) is automatically divided along a first direction into a first sub-area (12) and a second sub-area (13) if the first motion (10) and the second motion (11) extend substantially in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction and away from each other. The first output (A) is displayed in the first sub-area (12) and a second output (B) is displayed in the second sub-area (13).
