A biasing device (48) biases- the latch (38) into the engaged position. A foot-operated release lever (40) is operable to overcome the biasing device (48) and move the latch from the engaged to the disengaged position. The latch (38) holds the gate (16) securely and is is foot-operated, thereby leaving an operator's hands free to hold and control movement of the gate (16).
