<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid repeating an opening/closing operation of a first opening/closing cover and a second opening/closing cover. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises a cover opening/closing sequence regulation mechanism having a first opening/closing cover and a second opening/closing cover openably and closably attached to a housing. By having a structure allowing the second opening/closing cover to be in an open state when the first opening/closing cover is in a fully-closed state, the cover opening/closing sequence regulation mechanism regulates an opening/closing sequence of the first opening/closing cover and the second opening/closing cover. The cover opening/closing sequence regulation mechanism has restricting means and holding means. In the case where the second opening/closing cover is in an open state, when the first opening/closing cover is closed, the restricting means restricts the movement of the first opening/closing cover in the closing direction in a position spaced apart from a position where the first opening/closing cover contacts the housing.
