<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet detecting apparatus which prevents a sheet-to-sheet distance from becoming longer even when a sheet conveying speed is increased, thereby enhancing throughput, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet detecting portion 200 that detects a sheet includes: a sensor flag 23 in which a plurality of abutment surfaces are formed; a detecting means which has a plurality of flag parts which interlock with the rotation of the plurality of abutment surfaces and a detection sensor 33 that detects the sheet based on the position of a flag part; an urging means which positions the abutment surface 23a in a waiting position. The urging means includes: a sensor flag gear 24 connected to a rotary shaft 23e of the sensor flag; a sensor flag drive member 25 connected to the sensor flag gear 24 at a speed ratio which is the same number as a number of the abutment surfaces; and a sensor flag spring 27 connected to the sensor flag drive member 25 in such a manner that, when the sensor flag drive member 25 rotates by a predetermined angle, an urging force for returning the abutment surface 23a to the waiting position is changed to an urging force for positioning a succeeding abutment surface 23b in the waiting position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
