The apparatus (10) has a global positioning system (GPS) module provided in a housing (20), where the housing has a shock-absorbing wall and an electronic address space (50). The shock-absorbing wall consists of an inner layer and an outer layer, where the inner layer consists of dimensionally stable material, and the outer layer consists of shock-absorbing material. The inner layer is made of plastic and metal, and the outer layer consists of foam material e.g. elastomer. The electronic address space consists of electronic paper. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for mounting a telematics apparatus at a transportation container (2) a logistics method for the telematics apparatus.
