A video display system provided with a reproduction device for reproducing and outputting content, and a display device for displaying the content outputted from the reproduction device, wherein: the display device transmits to the reproduction device a message for inhibiting the output of a message for prompting the preparation to view a 3D video and a message for stopping the reproduction of 3D content when the 3D content containing the 3D video is inputted from the reproduction device, displays the message for prompting the preparation to view the 3D video, and transmits to the reproduction device a message for reproducing the 3D content upon receiving the instruction to reproduce the 3D content from a user; the reproduction device stops the reproduction of 3D content upon receiving the message for stopping the reproduction of the 3D content, prevents a video signal reproduction device connected to the display device of various 3D display methods from displaying or outputting more than once a verification verifying that the user is ready to view by reproducing and outputting the 3D content without outputting the message for prompting the preparation to view the 3D video upon receiving the message for reproducing the 3D content, and begins to reproduce the 3D content.
