<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an update method of updating firmware of a control device of an option device connected to an image forming device. <P>SOLUTION: In an embodiment, an image forming device comprises an image forming unit, a first control unit, a second control unit, and a third control unit. The image forming unit outputs an image output corresponding to image information. The first control unit controls an operation of the image forming unit. The second control unit controls an operation of an auxiliary device which can be further attached, if necessary, to an attachment device for supplying the image information to the image forming unit or for processing the image output outputted by the image forming unit, which assists the supply of the image information to the image forming unit or which performs predetermined processing on the image output outputted by the image forming unit.
