<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder capable of accurately and promptly detecting no presence of recording paper, and malfunction in paper feeding as well. <P>SOLUTION: A recorder 1 is provided with a plurality of microswitches 15 to be closed by contact with recording paper 3, which are arranged on the outer peripheral surface of a rotating body (sprocket drum 6) for moving the recording paper 3, spaced apart from each other in circumferential direction (for example, at 45 degree intervals), where the contact with the recording paper 3 is possible. The microswitches 15 are embedded approximately flush with the surface of the rotating body (sprocket drum 6). Operational states of a predetermined number of microswitches 15 in contact with the recording paper 3 at a time in a contact area of the rotating body (sprocket drum 6) with the recording paper 3 are determined.
