<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition capable of maintaining excellent discharge stability even when a printing speed is increased, and giving an image of high picture quality. <P>SOLUTION: The ink composition comprises (a) a pigment, (b) a water-soluble solvent, (c) a surfactant, (d) a compound expressed by general formula (I) or a silicone expressed by a specified chemical formula, and (e) water. The content of the compound expressed by general formula (I) or of the specified silicone in the ink composition is 0.15 mass% or less.
