<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical sensor that measures smoothness of recording paper. <P>SOLUTION: An optical sensor includes a light source, and a photodetector that irradiates a recording material with light emitted from the light source to detect intensity of the regular reflection light from the recording medium.
