<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a system, and a receiver for providing a description of road segments using positions of a geographic database. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the method for providing the description of the road segments using positions stored in the geographic database. The description of the road segments is output to a user. The road segments are discriminated in the geographic database upon the basis of position reference points. The position reference points make it possible to uniquely discriminate the road segments in the geographic database upon the basis of a dynamic position reference technique conforming to ISO17572-3.
