<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device and a communication method applied to the portable electronic device which can efficiently perform communication. <P>SOLUTION: A portable electronic device comprises: communication means; setting means; response means; and adjustment means. The communication means transmits/receives data composed of pieces of data in frame units. The setting means sets the maximum frame number which can be received and an initial value of the response start time for starting to respond to received data. At the moment when the response start time for data received by the communication means has passed, the response means transmits reception confirmation of the data.
