The cladding element (1) has a lighting unit (7) which is formed to illuminate a base area of a vehicle over a coupling area (8). The lighting unit has a light source (9) for generating the light and a light conductor (10) which is rigidly formed and in which the light is coupled. The light conductor is formed to decouple the light in the coupling area. The light guiding material is formed from a transparent or translucent thermoplastic, particularly polymethylmethacrylate or polycarbonate. An independent claim is included for a vehicle interior equipment with a center console.
