<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drain evaporator that includes a drain pan to collect drain water such as defrost water of a cooling unit in a freezing or refrigerating apparatus, and an evaporation cloth installed in the drain pan to evaporate the drain water, wherein many pieces of evaporation cloth are assembled to form a block having a rectangular cube shape, thus making effective use of the evaporation cloth and obtaining a large amount of evaporation. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet-like evaporation cloth 21 is laid on the top surface of the block 7 of evaporation cloth formed in a rectangular cube shape by arranging many pieces 7a of evaporation cloth with space therebetween, and the sheet-like evaporation cloth 21 is folded at both lateral ends thereof to form a downward sidewall 21a.
