An upper side of a number plate is provided with number plate symbols and illuminated by a lighting device (10) that is provided with LEDs. The carrier comprises transparent light conductor material (11) that is provided with light-scattering nano-dopant particles (17), where the particles are distributed in a volume (16) of the carrier. The number plate comprises a transparent plastic plate that does not contain the nano-dopant particles. The carrier comprises a plasticizer additive. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a number plate.
