<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing titanium oxide fine particles, by which the crystal structure of the crystalline titanium oxide fine particles is easily controlled, and in addition, to provide the titanium oxide fine particles produced by the production method. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for producing titanium oxide fine particles by making a colloidal dispersion of a titanate and an aqueous solution of a water-soluble organic compound to be coordination bonded with a titanium ion of the titanate react with each other via a hydrothermal synthesis, the water-soluble organic compound is an aromatic compound, and the titanium oxide fine particles exhibiting remarkable effectiveness of action is produced by the production method.
