<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant application device preventing an application member and a solid lubricant member from always coming in contact with each other and to provide an image forming apparatus mounted with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The lubricant application device is provided with: the application member (48) which is configured in such a manner that it can come in press-contact with and separate from the image forming surface (30) of an image carrier having a toner image and applies lubricant to the image forming surface; and the solid lubricant member (66) which is configured in such manner that it can come in contact with and separate from the application member and gives lubricity to the image forming surface through the application member.
