PURPOSE: A device for sensing a bulging of a slab and a method thereof are provided to sense a bulging of a slab generated in a continuous casting process through variations on the inner pressure of a measuring pipe installed in a grid groove of a segment, thereby preventing an outbreak accident by adjusting a cooling water amount or a casting speed. CONSTITUTION: A device for sensing a bulging of a slab comprises a measuring pipe(5), a pressure gauge(10), and a controlling unit(20). The measuring pipe is installed in a grip groove of a segment while the inner pressure of the measuring pipe is maintained. The pressure gauge measures the inner pressure of the measuring pipe. The controlling unit judges a bulging state based on the measured inner pressure.
