Inking-apparatus.-Means for removing surplus ink from the etched printing-surface 2 on the cylinder 1 of a rotary intaglio machine comprises a roller 8 having a replaceable ink-removing blanket 9 thereon, and a metal roller 11 adapted to contact the blanket 9 to remove the ink therefrom, the rotation of the rollers 8, 11 being such that there is relative movement between the engaging surfaces of the roller 8 and cylinder 1, and the roller 8 and roller 11. As shown, the roller 8 is carried by a pivoted oscillating arm 14 whereby the roller is moved into contact with the roller 11 when the gap in the cylinder 1 is opposed to the roller 8. The cylinder 1 and rollers 8, 11 rotate in the same direction. The surplus ink is removed from the metal roller 11 by a scraper 12 and falls into a trough 13. The blanket 9 is rubber-faced and its ends are secured in a groove 10 in the roller 8 which can be covered by a mask plate. It is arranged that the groove 10 always registers with the gap in the cylinder'1. Wiping cloths 5 complete the cleaning of the plate 2. |
