PURPOSE: An auto-filter of a clothing dryer and an operating method thereof are provided to reduce the power consumption of the clothing dryer by efficiently operating the auto-filter and accurately controlling a position of an arm cleaning a filter. CONSTITUTION: A filter filters foreign substances included in air discharged from the inside of a drum. A brush of an arm(154) is rotated by a driving motor to remove the foreign substances of the filter. A stopper(156a) is installed in the filter to set spin limits of clockwise and counter clockwise directions of the arm. A magnetism formation unit(160) is installed in the stopper. A rotational direction of the arm is changed by the stopper. The arm reciprocates to remove the foreign substances of the filter.
