PURPOSE: A lighting device for a vehicle and an operating method thereof are provided to reduce costs by automatically controlling the intensity of a lamp according to day time and night time situations inside the vehicle without a separate integrated circuit. CONSTITUTION: A signal generator(100) outputs a lighting mode selection signal according to the establishment of an operator or a brightness control signal. The signal generator generates a signal for controlling the brightness of an internal lamp of a vehicle. A lighting control unit(200) maintains the brightness of the internal lamp of the vehicle with an initial state. The lighting control unit differently emits light of the internal lamp of the vehicle to a plurality of brightness level values. A lighting mode selecting unit(110) generates the lighting mode selection signal for selecting a lighting mode of the internal lamp of the vehicle.
