PURPOSE: A scrap metal inventory managing device and a method thereof are provided to prevent manpower losses of inventory check by measuring and managing the total stock of scrap metal placed in an open-storage area in real time through an image. CONSTITUTION: A camera(10) photographs scrap metal placed in an open-storage area. An input unit(20) inputs a reference inventory quantity and a characteristic value of the scrap metal. A control unit(30) calculates the quantity of inventory through the characteristic value and a placement form of the scrap metal photographed by the camera. The control unit generates an alarm by comparing the calculated quantity with the reference inventory quantity. An alarm unit(40) outputs the alarm.
