PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to increase a frontal contrast ratio by a pair of phase difference films. CONSTITUTION: A first phase difference film(210) is provided onto a lower side of a first substrate. The first phase difference film has a first axis and a second axis. The second axis has a refractive index smaller than the refractive index of the first axis. A second phase difference film(220) is provided onto an upper side of a second substrate. The second phase difference film has a first axis and a second axis. The second axis has a refractive index smaller than the refractive index of the first axis.
