PURPOSE: A permanent magnet embedded rotor for a rotating electric machine and the rotating electric machine are provided to reduce a centrifugal load actuating on a bridge portion by forming a core region surrounded by a cavity, a magnet receiving portion, and a rotor core smaller than a conventional core region. CONSTITUTION: A permanent magnet embedded rotor rotating electric machine(M) has a stator(11) and a rotor(15) arranged in the stator. The stator includes a round stator core(12) and a plurality of coils(13) arranged along an inner circumference of the stator core. The stator core has a plurality of sawteeth(121) arranged along the inner circumference of the stator core. The rotor includes a rotor core(16) and a plurality of pairs of first and second flat permanent magnets(17A,17B). The first and second flat permanent magnets are laid under the rotor core. The pairs of the first and second permanent magnets are arranged around a rotation axis of the rotor in a rotating symmetrical shape.
