PURPOSE: A paper sheet handling device is provided to prevent the position of transferred paper currency from being changed because the transfer of the paper currency with a pick roller is stopped by detecting a failure state. CONSTITUTION: A paper sheet handling device comprises a receiving container, a stage(13), a transfer roller, and detecting units(20). The receiving container forms an outlet port(16) for drawing out paper sheets, and stores the paper sheets in a laminated state. The stage moves the paper sheets laminated in the receiving container in a laminated direction of the paper sheets. The transfer roller transfers the paper sheets compressed on the surface of the roller by the stage. The detecting units detect the positions of the paper sheets that is closely located in a rotary axis(14a) side of the transfer roller more than the outlet port based on the transferring direction of the paper sheets.
