PURPOSE: An eye buttonhole sewing machine is provided to automatically monitor the presence of sewing gimp thread. CONSTITUTION: An eye buttonhole sewing machine comprises: a gimp thread feeding device(23) for supplying gimp thread(16) to an eye buttonhole seam; a gimp thread guide device(24) with a gimp thread guide unit which guides the gimp thread; a monitoring sensor(30) for monitoring the position of the gimp thread guide unit; and a control device(38) with a signal accessing to the monitoring sensor. The gimp thread guide unit comprises a gimp thread clamping lever.
