PURPOSE: A three-dimensional operation recognizing apparatus and a recognizing method thereof using a stereo camera are provided to recognize three-dimensional body gesture generated within a three-dimensional space and to generate moving direction of a specific human body. CONSTITUTION: A moving object is photographed through a stereo camera(S201). A distance information calculator calculates depth map data about each pixel of the stereo image(S203). An object extractor extracts the moving object from the stereo image(S205). The object extractor and an object recognizer recognize a pointer which is a motion recognizing target(S209). A motion tracking unit tracts the motion of the pointer(S213). A motion information output unit calculates information about a three-dimensional moving direction of the pointer(S215).
