This piezoelectric device is a sintered body comprising a main body section (10) and a side-surface electrode (20). The main body section (10) has a plurality of piezoelectric layers (11) comprising a piezoelectric material and a plurality of layered internal electrodes (12), and is a laminate wherein piezoelectric layers (11) are positioned as the uppermost layer and the lowermost layer, and piezoelectric layers (11) and the internal electrodes (12) are alternately layered. The side-surface electrode (20) covers part of the side surface of the main body section (10) and connects to the internal electrodes (12). A plurality of ceramic particles are embedded inside the side-surface electrode (20). As a result, the difference between the amount of shrinkage in the main body section (10) and the side-surface electrode (20) during sintering can be reduced. Consequently, a highly reliable piezoelectric device with reduced cracking around the joining surface between the main body section and the side-surface electrode or the vicinity thereof can be provided.
