The method involves driving a powertrain (2) using a battery (4) i.e. lithium-ion battery, in operation mode if charging state of the battery lies above a threshold value, where the state is detected by an electrical sensor (17). Another operation mode is switched-on by a manual switch (11) e.g. push button, and menu function of a graphic display, according to a manual command, where a combustion engine (3) is switched-on, and the battery is charged in the latter mode if the state lies above the threshold value. An electromotor (5) is driven by the battery in the former operation mode. The graphic display is designed as a touch screen. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a drive system for a motor car (2) a motor car.
