The system has a battery housing (1) comprising a valve device (3) i.e. purely mechanical valve device, to inhibit flow of fluid from an environment (11) into an interior region (10) of the housing and from the interior region to the environment. An outlet is formed in the housing to discharge water present in the interior region. The valve device is opened when pressure in the interior region exceeds predetermined minimum pressure. A valve body (6) of the valve device is covered by a dirt protection element (12) i.e. rubber plate, and a stone protection element (14).
