PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic video encoder which can precisely display a depth value corresponding to a subject from a close range to a distant place with a limited word length when the depth value is encoded and transmitted with a video of a prescribed view point as a stereoscopic video.

SOLUTION: A stereoscopic video encoder 1 includes depth conversion means 11 converting a depth value corresponding to a distance to a subject O into a restricted depth value by a previously determined non-linear conversion expression so that the depth value corresponding to the previously determined shortest distance from a camera C to the subject O becomes the maximum value which the restricted depth value can take in a pre-stage of encoding means 12.
