The device i.e. inline gearbox (10), has two drive wheels (12a, 12b) arranged coaxial to a driven shaft (20) of an electric motor (14) having a rotor (16) and a stator (18). The driven shaft of the electric motor is coupled to a differential (30) such that one of two output shafts (32a, 32b) of the differential is penetrated into the driven shaft. The rotor and the driven shaft are coupled with one another by a switchable coupling device (22) arranged inside the rotor, where the switchable coupling device is coupled to a mechanical transmission device (26) arranged outside the electric motor.
