The present invention relates to a biodegradable polysorbitol-based osmotically active transporter and gene therapy using the same as a gene carrier. The biodegradable polysorbitol-based osmotically active transporter of the invention imparts osmotic pressure to a cell membrane since it includes a sorbitol skeleton, thereby exhibiting a transduction efficiency which is substantially improved through the increase of membrane permeability. Additionally, the biodegradable polysorbitol-based osmotically active transporter of the invention exhibits a high DNA-binding ability and physicochemical properties suitable for use as a gene carrier, and effectively protects DNA from nucleases. Furthermore, the biodegradable polysorbitol-based osmotically active transporter can be used as a transporter for gene therapy due to low cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. |
