A consumer uses a website to select preferred retailers on a map. A plurality of product categories is presented on the website. A plurality of product attributes for the product categories is presented on the website. A weighting factor is provided for the product attributes. A shopping list is generated for the consumer based on the product information, product attributes, and weighting factors. The shopping list has an individualized discount directed to the consumer for a product on the shopping list. The shopping list is provided to the consumer to assist with purchasing decisions. A trip plan is generated for the consumer. The purchasing decisions within the commerce system are controlled by enabling the consumer to select the products for purchase from the retailer.
