<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a printer correctly print a character string to be printed even when a corresponding character code in the printer differs depending on a function of a printer driver. <P>SOLUTION: A screen display unit 173 obtains a character string to be printed in printing using any of plural functions including an additional plug-in function. A character code identification table storage unit stores a character code identification table in which function identification information for identifying each of the plural functions is associated with character code identification information for identifying a character code. A conversion unit 174 obtains from the character code identification table the character code identification information corresponding to the function identification information indicating the function to be used in the printing of the character string obtained by the screen display unit 173, and converts the character string using the character code indicated by the obtained character code identification information.
