<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of an electric power steering apparatus that can determine the failure of a parasite diode and reliably detect the failure of MOS-FET even when a MOS-FET is used for a power supply relay. <P>SOLUTION: The electric power steering apparatus 10 keeps MOS-FETs 1, 2 and 13, 14 for building in 1, 2 and 15, 16 that represent the parasite diodes arranged in an energization route between a battery 100 and a motor drive circuit 11 and serially connected in a reverse direction, and a capacitor 18 arranged in the output side of MOS-FETs 2, 14 of the posterior stage. Immediately after an ignition switch 17 is switched on, MOS-FETs 1, 2 and 13, 14 are on/off controlled in prescribed order, and the failure of MOS-FETs 1, 2 and 13, 14 and 2, 16 that represent the parasite diodes is detected from output voltages of the respective MOS-FETs 1, 2 and 13, 14.
