Noise reduction intensity is suitably controlled when a twin-lens 3D image is played back, whereby noise having random parallax is reduced. The playback device comprises: a noise processing circuit for performing processing related to noise in the video signal of a contents video, on the basis of an imparted control signal; and a controller for receiving an output-format identification signal for identifying the output format of the contents video, generating the control signal in accordance with the output-format identification signal, and generating a control signal for causing the noise-related processing performed in the noise processing circuit to differ between when the output format of the contents video is a two-dimensional video and when output format is a three-dimensional video.
