<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically distinguish a vehicle rank and output operation notifying sound with less sense of incongruity. <P>SOLUTION: A generation circuit 8 for generating operation notifying sound is provided with a signal processing circuit 20 and a discrimination logic circuit 30. A noise signal detected by a noise detecting means 14 is input to the generation circuit 8. The discrimination logic circuit 30 determines the number of cylinders in an engine 2 on the basis of the noise signal, and the displacement of the engine 2 on the basis of the noise signal. A rotation speed signal from a rotation speed sensor 6 provided to the engine 2 and a vehicle speed signal from a vehicle speed sensor 7 provided to a vehicle are input to the generation circuit 8. The discrimination logic circuit 30 synthesizes the number of cylinders, rotation speed signal and vehicle speed signal to distinguish a vehicle rank. A synthesis circuit 12 synthesizes a sound signal for generating the operation notifying sound corresponding to the distinguished vehicle rank.
