The exhaust gas turbocharger (1) comprises a bearing housing (2) for mounting a turbine wheel (3), and a sprial housing (4), which has a spiral chamber (7) enclosing the turbine wheel in the circumferential direction axially on both sides. A retaining ring (5) is arranged corresponding to the bearing housing in a fixed manner and on which the sprial housing is fastened. The spiral housing comprises a radially inner edge (12), which is fastened on the retaining ring. The spiral housing is axially supported on a supporting point (16), which is arranged at a distance to the inner edge.
