The battery has series-connected battery cells (1-1-1-n) which are connected in series with current sensor (2) and control unit. The current sensor is arranged in order to measure current flowing through battery. The control unit is arranged in order to read out current values from the current sensor. A current conducting unit (4) is connected in parallel with the current sensor. The control unit is designed in order to perform activation and deactivation of current conducting unit, according to current values read out from current sensor. An independent claim is included for motor vehicle.
